At edge we love a party!

edge recently reached its first birthday and what better way to celebrate than to host a party for people that have supported the journey so far.

We chose to host the party at The Modern Art Oxford as we really liked how the contemporary and industrial look reflected the edge brand. With it being an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, we were able to help towards the maintaining of such a great place, plus it also offered us such a versatile space for what we wanted to achieve.

We had a fantastic turn out of about 100 guests on the night. Among them were clients and consultants from the industry as well as close friends and family. It was a great opportunity for everyone to catch up with existing contacts and network with new people. There was fantastic atmosphere throughout the evening with everyone mingling and enjoying a few drinks and the delicious Smörgasbord feast, paying homage to Sarah’s Swedish heritage. All of this was captured beautifully by the very talented Phillipa James, our photographer.

Sarah and Hannah delivered a very heart felt speech, thanking everyone for all their support since starting the company, showing us their special bond and mutual respect for one another – the foundation for the success of edge to date. They told the room about their exciting plans for the future, which lead them on to sharing the wonderful news that the edge team has expanded, introducing Astrid, Sophie and I as the “edge-lets”.

With edge being an all-female team working in a male dominated construction industry, to build on our women empowerment agenda we held a charity auction as part of our event with proceeds being raised for The Circle NGO. We are very passionate about the work that The Circle do for women. The charity was founded by Annie Lennox in 2008, inspired by the notion that when women come together and organise, they can be a powerful force for change. We wanted to spread this message throughout our event, as well as raise money and awareness for the wonderful work they do. Leanne Duffield attended the event, representing The Circle and giving us a very educated and passionate speech about the charity. Leanne also came bearing gifts that The Circle kindly donated, including some charity t-shirts and a signed programme by Annie Lennox herself.

James Scott from Urban&Civic was our amazing compere and auctioneer for the evening, providing us with witty banter and natural charisma. Known for his placemaking rap to the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, who better to warm the crowd up. We were also very lucky to have some fantastic auction prizes donated to us by Blenheim Palace, Evoke Transport, photographer Philippa James, Tyler Grange and the England & Wales Cricket Board. Some of these fantastic prizes included a photoshoot, signed Cricket bat by the Women’s 2018 team and a family day at Blenheim Palace.

Everyone got really involved with the auction, providing some good laughs and a fun, buzzing atmosphere. It was a great success and we are so proud to have raised a phenomenal total of £1300 for The Circle.

In addition, as part of our event we curated ‘We Are One‘ – our very own exhibition inspired by women, for women, showcasing strong images and inspirational quotes from almost 100 women we know. The gallery space at Modern Art Oxford worked perfectly as an area to view and enjoy this empowering display.

It was an amazing evening celebrating the magnificent triumph for edge in their first year. Here’s to many more years for the business!
