edge is 6!
In honour of our 6th Birthday, we persuaded edge co-Founders Sarah and Hannah to share their highs, lows and any secrets they may have squirreled away from their past 6 years of living life on the edge. Happy Birthday edge… here’s to the next 6!
How does it feel to be celebrating 6 years of edge?
H: “Celebrating 6 years of edge feels like it only started yesterday… and at the same time it feels like it’s always been this way! It’s a pleasure to work with such amazing people both in our team and within our wider circle of collaborators and friends.”
S: “I can’t quite believe we’re at 6 years already, I don’t know where the time has gone! The last few years have absolutely flown by and it’s a testament to the amazing team that edge has grown and accomplished so much in what is a relatively short period of time.”
What’s been the most surprising thing about your journey so far?
H: “Probably how successful the business has been, personally I didn’t even know what ‘edge at 6 years old’ looked like, the only goal was ‘world domination!’”
S: “I have loved how the journey so far has taken us on several twists and turns, and I don’t think we could have quite imagined that we’d be where we are now when we started. We’re never afraid to embark on something new, fun and exciting, and that attitude has led us to where we are now.”
If you could go back to day one of edge and give yourselves one piece of advice, what would it be?
S: “Keep dreaming big, because there really aren’t any limitations, and we can shape our own destiny with determination and self-belief.”
H: “Be fearless… and remember that everyone feels as much an imposter on their own journeys, as you do!”
What has been your proudest moment?
S: “I have lots of proud moments, from seeing how we have become some of our client’s favourite/go-to masterplanners to getting various complex projects over the line, however I have to say that every edge birthday celebration has provided true reflective moments, opportunities to stand back and really take in what we have achieved. I am immensely proud of each of these milestones! edge parties have been pretty epic to date, and it’s been wonderful and humbling to see clients, consultants, contemporaries and family and friends celebrate our success with us.”
H: “Seeing the spark of one tiny idea transform into the potential for a great oak tree – creating ‘Made for Me’, for Niamh initially, a shock surprise win at the NLA and then starting to see the impact that it could potentially have not only on the way Niamh feels about herself, but also the ripple effect of being to help millions of other people who face challenges in their lives that we will never understand.”
And your biggest challenge?
H: “Riding the financial waves and managing to sleep at night through it!!”
S: “Learning the intricacies of running a business, particularly in more financially sticky times, and ensuring our people feel valued.”
What is your favourite memory together?
H: “Running around a field on a site visit, pretending to be horses!”
S: “‘Networking’ aka letting our hair down. We used to have so much time for ‘networking’ …I think Birmingham misses us!”
Is there anything people don’t know about edge?
S: “I think we’re pretty vocal about pretty much everything!”
H: “YES, we once employed a man!”
What have you learned about living life on the edge so far?
S: “It’s hard work, but utterly rewarding and I wouldn’t change a thing …apart from maybe a little more sleep!”
H: “That having the space to create your own destiny and invent the things you love, is possible for everyone to achieve.”
How is edge different?
H: “How is edge similar?”
S: “We started edge with the intention of being different, to do business differently, so we are different in so many ways! Our reputation is testament to this.”
What’s next for edge?
S: “We want to continue to grow, but exactly what that will look like isn’t set in stone. Our journey has been full of twists and turns, and it will most likely continue that way. We’re certainly not slowing down so watch this space for more exciting times ahead.”
H: “We are delighted to be working with Simon Ursell to kickstart the next 5 years of our edge journey, we don’t know what’s next. What we do know is that it’s going to be the start of the next big, new, exciting adventure for all of us!”
