Hannah and Sarah have a passion for inspiring and nurturing others in their career progression. With the growing recognition of edge as a leading Urban Design consultancy, this has provided a platform for Hannah and Sarah to educate students, colleagues and other professionals within the built environment with the core principles of Urban Design which they believe are paramount in delivering exemplar placemaking. Teaching future generations of Architects and Urban Designers provides them with a great personal reward and demonstrates their drive to foster greater teamwork within the industry.
Over the last couple of months, Hannah and Sarah have been busy taking their Urban Design workshops on tour. This has included:
‘Drawing Workshop’ at Oxford Brookes University, teaching 130 first year architecture students how to tackle strategic urban design whilst thinking about long term strategies and visions and communicating this through their drawings. Their enthusiasm and energy was inspiring and energising!
‘Setting up your own practice Workshop’ at Oxford Brookes University, sharing the journey to date at edge Urban Design with the new Part 3 Architecture students. From how to deal with your accounts, winning new work and dealing with day to day opportunities to innovative ways of marketing and developing a brand to make you stand out from the crowd– a fantastic reflection of the first few months of edge! The session culminated in the students imagining the set-up of their own practice which they had to sell to the ‘investors’, Dragons’ Den style.
‘Great Placemaking Workshop’ at Knight Architects in High Wycombe, discussing the challenges of placemaking, thinking big and selling a vision through the planning process. This also included a mini ‘fat pens’ drawing workshop, getting the designers out of their comfort zone and providing an opportunity for critical thinking.
