Graduate to Director Programme

Frequently Asked Questions

When can I apply?

Applications are CLOSED for 2026, and will open again in March 2027.

How do I apply?

By sending us your CV, portfolio or link to an e-portfolio and a covering letter or email. Keep an eye out on our social media pages for next year’s application details!

What should be in my portfolio?

We look for curious, thoughtful designers who care about people and place. We’re drawn to graduates who think landscape-first, who understand that movement, nature and community shape the framework of a place long before the buildings arrive. The strongest portfolios will show empathy, rigour and imagination. If you have an ability to zoom in and out from big picture thinking to the human scale, then you’ll love it at edge. Most importantly, show us what YOU are passionate about. We love enthusiasm and having a keenness to learn – which is just as important to us as having a great portfolio.

Is there anything else I need to provide as part of my application?

Yes –  we also want to know about you as an individual… what makes you tick? What are you passionate about? Send us 3 fun facts!

Can I apply if I haven’t studied ‘Urban Design’ at undergraduate?

Yes! We are looking for graduates who hold a degree in a relevant subject related to Urban Design.

I am not graduating until the following year, do you offer work experience?

We are keen to support the next generation of urban designers and do offer work experience placements, get in touch via enquiries@edgeud.co.uk with your CV, portfolio and details of what you’re after.

Do I need a masters in Urban Design?

No, we do not require applicants to hold a masters in Urban Design. If this is something you are interested in carrying out in the future then we do offer bursary opportunities to employees for further studies in Urban Design.

Where are the roles based?

We are looking for graduates in both our Thame studio and our Birmingham studio (in the Jewellery Quarter).

When would the roles start?

To be announced.

What training do you offer?

We provide a dedicated training budget to support your growth, and provide training in software alongside CPDs to expand your urban design and built environment knowledge. This is all part of our Graduate to Director training programme, to grow your own way in your career.

When will I hear back about my application?

We will acknowledge receipt of your application by email and review all applications in one go following the closing date. Keep checking back for updates related to next year’s programme!
